Exclusively Inclusive - 12 months on we reflect on our ‘The World As We See It’ exhibition.
I can hardly believe that it’s been 12 months since we began our Photo voice journey together with our lovely friends at Exclusively Inclusive more info on the exhibition can be found HERE.
The exhibition that we created together was titled ‘The World As We See It’ which spent 3 months on display at Skipton Town Hall during which time it prompted some very powerful conversations and reflections.
One conversation in particular with Richard Webb, Director of Health for North Yorkshire County Council has led to the exhibition going on tour across Libraries and Community Centres across North Yorkshire! We are so keen to share the photographs, perspectives and stories that have emerged through this project - as part of that we felt it was important to revisit the photos and check in with the photographers to see how they felt about the images now and add some additional context in preparation for the tour.
I am fascinated by the way we engage with photographs - we can revisit images over time and on each viewing pick up on something different, obviously the images don’t change, but the context in which we view them does and of course we do too.
We can look at the same image from last year, 6 months ago, last week or yesterday and our thoughts and reactions will most likely be very different in the here and now - this aspect of photography ensures that whatever the subject matter of the exhibition, it remains current because we’re always viewing things through the lens of our present feelings and our present moment.
We also took the opportunity to present all of the photographers with a certificate and a book featuring photographs from the exhibition and the workshops - massive thank you to Katie from Exclusively Inclusive for organising this and our heartfelt thanks to you for making all of this possible!!
Watch this space for details of the forthcoming tour across North Yorkshire and we’ll also share some of the reflections from the photographers too!
