We’ve got Arts Council Funding! Sensory Stories - coming in 2024!

It has been a bit of a whirlwind recently, there is so much to share! As I write these words I am still VERY much in shock so I’ll say it again, as much for my benefit as anyone else…. WE GOT ARTS COUNCIL FUNDING!!

I’ll do a proper introduction to the project in due course (and once I’ve come back down to earth) and rest assured that I’ll be posting regular updates about this as it will be one of my main focuses for the next year - but here’s a very brief overview.

Sensory Stories is a creative research & development project, experimenting with ecofriendly printmaking as a tactile & visual art medium, combined with Photovoice methods of critical consciousness - exploring multi-sensory experiences of place and identity.

I’ll be working alongside Exclusively Inclusive, Beechcliffe School, Kirklees College & Local Services 2 You on this project and I am so grateful for their support and can’t wait to start planning for delivery in early 2024!

I am also hugely grateful to Manda Graham for support in developing my ideas and navigating the whole Arts Council process - I literally could not have done this with out you! Manda will be providing support to Sensory Stories and helping us to make the most of this platform for growth!

Big shout out also to Ben Catley Richardson who coached me through my natural aversion to form filling and motivated me to get sh!t done :)

The project is also going to add some capacity to Our Creative Connection from Emma Dick who is providing admin and project coordination support and Sarah Frost who will be helping with evaluation.

Sensory Stories is the next evolution of Our Creative Connection - we’ll be stepping up a gear in terms of scope, scale and impact of our work. This is the beginning of the next phase of development for Our Creative Connection and I am so excited to begin!

I am keen to grow the conversation with fellow travellers, practitioners and folks who are interested in photovoice, community development and the intersection of art and community - if that sounds like you’re cup of tea too then I’d love for you to check out the Our Creative Connection Podcast HERE and you can also find it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube if you follow the links below!
